On September 25, 2026, the Congress of Ophthalmologists of the Republic of Kazakhstan with international participation, titled “Achievements and the Future of Ophthalmology in the Republic of Kazakhstan,” took place in Bakshasaray.
Medico-Innovative Technologies (MIT) participated in the event, presenting modern solutions for ophthalmology.
As part of the congress, Dr. Mohamed Tawfik (Giza, Egypt) delivered a presentation entitled “How 3D Microscopy Is Changing the Approach to Complex Cataract Cases,” using the Leica Proveo 8 surgical microscope.
Dr. Tawfik is a Vitreoretinal Ophthalmology Consultant at the Memorial Institute of Ophthalmic Research (MIOR), CEO of El-Ferdaws Eye Center, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS).
Leica Proveo 8 is a surgical microscope designed for ophthalmology. Its FusionOptics technology combines high resolution with an extended depth of focus. The CoAx 4 illumination system provides a stable red reflex and high image contrast. Depending on the configuration, 3D visualization and intraoperative optical coherence tomography (OCT) solutions are also available.
The congress also featured a hands-on workshop using the Haag-Streit ELARA 900 digital slit lamp, a device designed for ophthalmic diagnostics. It offers magnification ranging from 6.3× to 40×, as well as digital photo and video documentation capabilities, enabling detailed examination of ocular structures and recording of examination findings.
MIT is the exclusive distributor of Leica Microsystems and Haag-Streit Diagnostics in the Republic of Kazakhstan, providing healthcare institutions with advanced solutions for ophthalmic surgery and diagnostics.
